I can guess your top New Year’s resolution without even being a psychic. It was to work out more. See also: “lose weight” or “be healthier.” The tiny gym in my building is flooded with people I have never seen before, add that to the regulars who are there 5/6 days a week and that equal’s total gridlock.
Personally, I know how easy it is to lose motivation. I usually work out before heading to the office and the temptation of hitting snooze is powerful. Especially since it’s pitch black at 6 o’clock in the morning. And, if you’re a regular reader of Hot Femme, you know I work out at the tiny gym in my building. It’s now flooded with Resolutioners, which has upped the wait times for a machine from none to about 10 minutes. Having a great playlist can help give you the motivation to get out of bed. Here are the songs that motivate me!
1. Shake Señora- Pitbull feat. T-Pain and Sean Paul
This song is like my dream. A reggaeton beat to satisfy the Boriqua in me and a sampling of a song from my favorite yuppie classic, Beetlejuice. This song makes 4 minutes on the treadmill feel like 30 seconds.
2. Dance (A$$)- Big Sean
I love this song. Especially the “go stupid” part, because that’s what my Minority Report partner in crime Cynthia says to me when I dance!
3. Obsessed- Mariah Carey
I know, I know, it’s an old song. BUT, you know that b*tch that’s telling everyone she got something she didn’t get? Listening to this song provides the soundtrack to a good revenge fantasy.
4. Caught Out There- Kelis
You might be sensing a theme…nothing is more motivating than anger. Think of the ex that broke your heart and get that much closer to hot.
5. Turn Me On- Nicki Minaj
This song is all about sex. And you know what you want to get in shape for? Exactly.
6. Frisky- Tinie Tempah
See no. 5.
7. Pass At Me- Timbaland
Because I love it when you make a pass at me.
8. Sexy and I Know It- LMFAO
Keep your eyes on the prize, girl. If you want to be sexy you better keep running.
9. Till the World Ends: Femme Fatale Remix- Britney Spears feat. Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha
It’s Britney, bitch. ‘Nuff said.
10. Domino- Jessie J.
This one is going to remind you of The Girl. The one that makes your heart sing. Don’t you want to stay in shape for her? Exactly.
Yay! I needed new songs. Thanks 🙂
If you have any rec’s let me know! I’m always looking for more.
Hi Natasia, Hot Femme, I’m a little old school, but I did come up with some “oldie” suggestions:
1. “All for You,” Janet Jackson,” because who wouldn’t feel incented thinking of how hot she was in the 90s!
2. Prince – “Kiss,” yes, I know he’s a guy but I saw him in concert and he’s pretty! I always found the song stimulating, you know, when dancing with women, so I’m thinking it will be stimulating when working out.
3. Christina Aguilera – “Lady Marmalade.” I mean Christina has to get you moving.I’d move for her, anytime.
Justin Timberlake, “Sexy Back.” Okay, see explanation for Prince above. You can exercise, dance, and have sex all at once to this one.
Pink – “Oh,My God.” For those of you unfamiliar with this song, listen. One of the hottest songs ever. This is really a song to make love to, but maybe you’ll meet someone at that gym of yours….
I’ve seen Prince in concert too! I love him! I have Kiss and Lady Marmalade on my ipod and I alllways mean to download All for You and forget. Great suggestions!
Just listening to P!nk…that song sounds like the soundtrack to random gym sex on “The L Word”
The Janet track is a very good look….And since when is that old school!!
Duuude that jam came out in 2001 or something. That’s old school!
I completely get what you’re saying! Plus I have found that the soundtrack of grunting (not just the guys, ladies I’m looking at some of ya’ll!), people arguing the benefits of crossfit over weightlifting, what I can only assume is lamaze class breathing practice, and a host of other nonsense NEEDS to be drowned out with something. My playlist is pretty extensive but heres some stuff in heavy rotation:
1) Wale “Mama Told Me”. I find its a good warmup/first half a mile song.
2) Tinie Tempah “Unstoppable” and “Pass Out”. Glad to see you took my rec. on his other track!!! High energy music to lift or sweat to!
3) Coheed and Cambria “In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth”…..its 8 minutes long, i know! But The length allows you to get into a zone and let the song work for you. You blast through weight training with this as fuel. Its also a guilty pleasure of mine to listen to someone turn a 3 syllable word into a 9 syllable word “pi-hi-hi-hi-o-ne-hee-hee-earrs!”. Check it out!
4) System of a Down “Question!” and “B.Y.O.B”. For semi-angry energy while weight training, you can’t go wrong with almost their whole catalog, but these are two favs of mine.
5) Tracy Chapman “Fast Car” and “Broken”…Curveball whaaaa?!?! Excellent cooldown tracks, they keep me from treating my cooldown like another task, and let me actually COOL DOWN. Especially since looking at my list I have been making myself angry for 45-70 minutes!!
Oh, sorry if you’re the person on the treadmill or bench next to mine, trying not to look at the weirdo mouthing the lyrics to all of the above? 😀
Tinie Tempah is amazing workout music!
I totally agree that cool down songs are an important part of a workout. Tracy Chapman is an excellent choice!
Once a guy on the treadmill next to me got so into his music that he was fist pumping. He almost fist pumped me in the head.
I wish I had that inner drive and self control to work out on a regularly, but somehow when I’m busy all the time I loose the will to do any sort of work out, I have like 10 pilates lessons to use up and never get round to it
It’s hard to find time to workout, for sure. That’s why I usually do it before work. But waking up in the pitch black blows.
I’m not doing the aerobic workout thing or zumba or anything so sweat inducing for a workout, but I did find some nice modern stuff for my sweetie and I to listen to when we’re doing our Tai Chi sets together… a lil’ modern…. and a lil ancient… and even a lil’ bit “movie inspired”. Guzheng’s interpretation of the theme to my fav film of all time, “A Chinese Ghost Story”.
I always get so inspired when I’m relaxing and moving through the forms while listening. Not everybody’s cup of “green tea” but it puts me in the mood to work it out.
Oooo, I like it. A diff kind of workout for sure!
Hm, I don’t know a single song on your list, but I know every one on Cindy Z’s … Obviously I’m VERY old school — and out of shape.
Great lineup–thanks for the tips!
Glad you like it! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
